BAMAKO | Sat Apr 7, 2012 8:21am EDT

BAMAKO (Reuters) - Mali's junta leader said on Saturday a power handover agreed with neighboring countries would take place in days with the appointment of an interim government of national unity.

"It is the will of the committee (junta) to quickly move towards the transition ... In the next few days you will see a prime minister and a government in place," Captain Amadou Sanogo told reporters at the military barracks outside the capital Bamako which has been the headquarters of his two-week-old rule.

The junta and regional mediators announced late on Friday they had agreed a plan for a transition to civilian government but did not say when the handover was due to start.
